1. Bitvavo: The cheapest platform in Europe for trading in euros
Bitvavo is Europe’s largest exchange by volume in euros, headquartered in Amsterdam and with more than 2 million users. It ranks first because, in addition to having some of the lowest trading fees in the ranking, it is one of the few exchanges designed from the outset for users depositing in euros: it does not require users to go through dollars or stablecoins as an intermediate step. It holds a MiCA (CASP) license granted by the Dutch AFM Starting in 2025, with a passport valid in all 27 EU countries.
SEPA deposits are free and credited the same day, with a minimum of just €1; users in the Netherlands can also make instant deposits via iDEAL. Withdrawals in euros via SEPA are also free. For European users, this combination of a low minimum deposit and absolutely no fees for transactions in euros is hard to match among the other platforms in the ranking. See the full review of Bitvavo

2. Kraken: Three different methods for depositing in euros, including SEPA Instant
Kraken is one of the industry’s longest-standing exchanges, founded in 2011, with over 600 cryptocurrencies and a presence in more than 190 countries. It ranks second because it offers up to three separate ways to deposit euros: standard SEPA, SEPA Instant, and wire transfer, each managed as a separate service on its platform. In Europe, it operates through Payward Europe Solutions Limited, which is authorized as a CASP by the Central Bank of Ireland as of June 2025.
Standard SEPA deposits take between 0 and 3 business days and are free of charge, while SEPA Instant credits the funds in seconds, also free of charge, although it isn’t always available 100% of the time (Kraken has reported a few isolated incidents lasting several hours in 2026). The minimum deposit is €10. For European users, having SEPA Instant as an option is essential if you need to trade immediately, without waiting for the standard processing time. It was the first major crypto platform to obtain the MiCA license, granted by the Germany's BaFin in January 2025.
Deposits via SEPA transfer are free, while payments by card or other electronic methods incur a 1.5% fee. For European users, this variety of methods is especially useful if your bank has restrictions on transfers to exchanges, since Bitpanda offers alternatives that other exchanges in the ranking do not provide. This ranking was compiled based on a comparative analysis of MiCA-authorized cryptocurrency exchanges available to customers in the European Union, focusing specifically on the experience of depositing in euros—including cost, speed, minimum amounts, and variety of methods—to identify those that make it easiest to deposit funds in 2026.
How did we selected the exchanges in this ranking
This ranking was compiled based on a comparative analysis of MiCA-authorized cryptocurrency exchanges available to customers in the European Union, focusing specifically on the experience of depositing in euros—including cost, speed, minimum amounts, and variety of methods—to identify those that make it easiest to deposit funds in 2026.
To compile the ranking, we evaluated each platform based on the following criteria:
| Criteria | What We Evaluate | |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | License Regulation and Verification | We only include exchanges with full MiCA authorization, verifying each operator in the public registry of the ESMA , including the services covered by its license and the national regulator that issued it. |
| 2 | Deposit amount in euros | Whether there is a fee for deposits made via SEPA, credit card, or other methods, and how much the fee is in each case. |
| 3 | Minimum deposit | Minimum amount required to start trading on each platform. |
| 4 | Accreditation Speed | Time it takes for the balance to appear after a deposit: Standard SEPA (0–3 days), SEPA Instant, or local methods such as iDEAL. |
| 5 | A variety of payment methods | Alternatives to bank transfers (credit card, Skrill, Trustly, Apple Pay, Google Pay, cash) are available for those who face restrictions from their bank. |
| 6 | Track Record and Transparency | Each exchange's security track record and transparency in the disclosure of reserves (Proof of Reserves). |
The testing was completed in September 2026, with a final review of the custody terms published by each exchange and the licenses listed in ESMA’s public registry as of the publication date. You can view the complete data research and verification process on our methodology.
Important note: We review this ranking periodically based on changes to each exchange's deposit terms or new MiCA authorizations. Rankings may vary.
Regulation of cryptocurrency exchanges and cryptocurrencies in Europe
Platforms offering cryptocurrency services in the European Union operate under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, which applies to service providers as of December 30, 2024. Authorization and supervision are harmonized: each provider obtains its CASP license from a single national regulator (such as the Dutch AFM, the German BaFin, the Spanish CNMV, the Maltese MFSA, the Austrian FMA, or the Central Bank of Ireland), and that license allows it to operate in all 27 member states under the European passport system, including the safekeeping of the euro funds you deposit.
The transition period ended on July 1, 2026, and since then, only platforms authorized by one of these regulators or properly notified to the ESMA. MiCA requires these exchanges to safeguard customer funds separately from their own assets, but it does not set or limit the deposit fees that each platform may charge: that depends solely on each exchange's business policy.
Important note: Binance does not appear in this ranking because it does not have a MiCA license. As of July 1, 2026, it is not accepting new users or deposits in Spain and only allows withdrawals.
