Note: Bitvavo accepts residents of the 25 countries marked on the map. Payment methods may vary by country. Spain and Belgium have their own websites (bitvavo.es and bitvavo.be).

All countries have access to SEPA transfer, card, Apple Pay and Google Pay. In almost all of them you can also pay with PayPal, Bancontact and EPS, except in Germany, where neither Bancontact nor EPS are available. iDEAL | Wero, meanwhile, is only available in the Netherlands.

KYC registration and verification on Bitvavo: how to verify your account

To use Bitvavo you have to verify your identity, a mandatory requirement by European regulations. The process is automatic and usually takes only a few minutes. First take a photo of your document with the camera (if it’s a DNI or driving license, also from the back) and then record a short video: you place your face inside the oval and read aloud the numbers that appear on the screen. To avoid rejections, ideally do it in good light and with the document at hand.

Passport, ID on card, driving license on card and residence permit with at least 3 months validity are accepted. The document is checked by a third-party provider and deleted at the end, and once verified you do not have to repeat the process even if it expires.

Retirar criptomonedas a una wallet externa sí tiene un coste, que depende de la capacidad de la red de cada activo y puede variar con el tiempo. Estas son las comisiones de las criptomonedas más populares:

Security in Bitvavo: how to protect your funds and your account

When you store cryptocurrencies on an exchange, the first thing you want to know is where they really are. On Bitvavo, the vast majority are stored in cold wallets without an internet connection. Its custody is handled by two specialized providers, insured for up to $755 million, and large transfers always require manual approval from several people.

Other guarantees are added to this. There is a foundation, Stichting Bitvavo Payments, created only for Bitvavo with one specific purpose: to safeguard users' funds if the company went bankrupt. The platform is based in Amsterdam, complies with EU anti-money laundering and data protection regulations, and its code undergoes external audits whenever it changes significantly.

You can also reinforce your own account with these options:

  • Two-factor authentication (2FA): a second step at login.
  • Anti-Phishing Code: helps you distinguish real emails from Bitvavo.
  • Devices and IP: You control where your account is accessed from.
  • Address whitelist: You can only remove wallets that you have previously approved.

Our recommendation is to enable at least 2FA and address whitelist. Bitvavo does its part, but these two measures take a couple of minutes and cover the most usual risks.

Staking on Bitvavo Earn: up to 25.40% APY with your cryptocurrencies

If you have long-term stored cryptocurrencies, Bitvavo Earn allows you to generate profitability in the meantime. You can stake over 65 assets and choose between two modes, depending on how much freedom you want to maintain.

  • Flexible staking: you can trade or withdraw your cryptocurrencies at any time, with no lockdown deadlines. Earnings are calculated daily and paid every Monday.

  • Fixed staking: you block your cryptocurrencies for a period in exchange for a higher APY. Profits are paid at the end of the term and your assets automatically revert to flexible staking.

Getting started is easy: enter the Earn Center and activate Automatic Win. From that moment on, all your eligible assets start to generate profitability with flexible staking, without setting up anything else. If you want to get more out of a particular asset later, you can switch it to fixed staking individually.

Here are the most profitable cryptocurrencies:

CryptocurrencyProfitability (APY)
Livepeer (LPT)Up to 25,40 %
Orca (ORCA)Up to 12,80 %
API3 (API3)Up to 12,80 %
Cosmos (ATOM)Up to 11,50 %
Chiliz (CHZ)Up to 9,10 %

And these are some of the most popular, with lower returns:

CryptocurrencyProfitability (APY)
Solana (SOL)Up to 3,30 %
Avalanche (AVAX)Up to 3,10 %
Polkadot (DOT)Up to 2,10 %
Ethereum (ETH)Up to 2,00 %
Cardano (ADA)Up to 0,40 %

Important note: staking and lending are not regulated by MiCA, so the protections of regulated services may not apply.

Bitvavo Pro: the advanced version for traders

Bitvavo Pro is the web version of the platform designed for those who want to go a step beyond fast shopping. You enter with the same account, without registering again, and the commissions are exactly the same as in the normal version.

The most interesting thing about Bitvavo Pro is that it offers trader tools without becoming complicated. You can jump from one market to another with keyboard shortcuts. You can also resize the charts, order book and market data to assemble the panel as you like. And if you want to change an open order, you do it directly from the chart, without going through menus.

Web3 Wallet from Bitvavo: more than 15,000 tokens from the same app

Bitvavo has integrated a Web3 wallet into its app so that you can access more than 15,000 cryptoassets, including tokens that are not yet listed on the exchange, without installing another app. From there you can swap between networks such as Ethereum, Solana, Base, Binance Smart Chain or Optimism, and send or receive cryptocurrencies directly on the blockchain. Create it in just a few minutes: go to your profile, select "Wallet Web3" and set up an access key.

That’s right, it’s a different service than your Bitvavo account. This is your own safekeeping wallet: you control your assets and are also responsible for them. Transactions cannot be reversed, Bitvavo does not verify tokens and if you get the address or network wrong, you may lose funds. All fees are shown before confirming each trade.

Bitvavo for institutions: large-scale euro liquidity

Bitvavo is not only designed for individuals. It also has a specific service for institutions that want to trade cryptocurrencies in Europe with large volumes. Its main asset is liquidity: according to the platform itself, it moves more than €100 billion per year and concentrates over 50% of the crypto market against euros. For a large trader this translates into low spreads and bulky orders that barely move the price.

At the technical level it offers a low latency API compatible with FIX, REST and WebSocket. The account is financed by immediate SEPA transfers. High-volume traders have access to custom commissions and exclusive returns, and a dedicated support team accompanies the entire onboarding process.

Bitvavo vs Kraken, Coinbase and Finst

Bitvavo fits very well if you operate in euros, but depending on what you are looking for you may be interested in another option. All four exchanges are MiCA licensed, so the difference is in the fees, the catalog and the type of user they are directed to.

Exchange maker / taker Cryptocurrencies Ideal for
Bitvavo 0,15 % / 0,25 % More than 400 Trading in euros and low fees
Finst 0,15 % fija More than 340 A simple commission, no tranches
Kraken 0,40 % / 0,80 % More than 600 Extensive catalog and advanced trading
Coinbase 0,40 % / 0,60 % More than 260 Beginners who prioritize simplicity

Finst is the most direct rival of Bitvavo: it is also Dutch and charges a fixed commission of 0.15%, without sections, although Bitvavo compensates with Bitvavo Pro and with sections that lower up to 0.00% as maker. Kraken has the widest catalog, with over 600 cryptocurrencies, and Coinbase stands out for its simple app and brand, but both charge higher fees on the first installments. If you’re looking for low commissions and advanced tools in one place, Bitvavo is the most complete option.

Bitvavo in 2026: is it worth it?

There are two things to keep in mind: customer support does not include a phone, and both staking and the Web3 wallet are out of MiCA. This is why we recommend it above all to European users who are looking for a simple, cheap and regulated platform to invest in euros. If you prioritize phone support, another alternative might work for you. However, the balance between cost, safety and user-friendliness leads us to score it 4.6 out of 5.

  1. Personally, I consider Bitvavo one of the best crypto exchanges in Europe, especially thanks to its robust MiCA regulatory framework.

  2. The charts could be clearer, and I'd like to see some additional data on cryptocurrencies. It would also be helpful to have more information on transactions and the average purchase price.
